Inflammation
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
Assesses how quickly red cells settle, providing a nonspecific indicator of inflammation.
Understanding the result
An elevated ESR does not identify the cause. Blood-cell characteristics can also affect the result.
Reading your report
Use the units, method and reference interval on your laboratory report. Your clinician can interpret the result alongside your history and other findings.
